AN OKEHAMPTON born man is taking a year out from his successful career as a chef to travel the world.

Robert Kelly, 42, a former Okehampton College pupil, became head chef at Branksome Beach restaurant, near Bournemouth, Dorset a year ago and has already won awards for his restaurant?s cuisine and featured in a recent edition of Foodie magazine.

However, he has decided temporarily to turn his back on the kitchen to fulfill a long-helf ambition to go travelling. Among the places Robert plans to visit are Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia and the United States.

After finishing at Okehampton College, Robert completed a two-year catering course at Exeter College. He has worked at the Manor House Hotel, near Okehampton as well as in the hotel industry in Cheltenham and Bournemouth.
