WHITCHURCH Ladies' cricket team recorded their first league win against South Devon Ladies at Newton Abbot.
Whitchurch won the toss, fielded first and found the openers more than capable of putting on over 40 for the first wicket.
Cathy Griffin and Lesley Smith then put the brakes on;. Griffin 7-2-2-14 and Smith 7-2-2-7.
Karen Harvey, South Devon's Devon player, then scrapped for every run in her innings of 43 not out.
Wickets were falling at the other end thanks to Jenny Kay 6-0-4-25, but South Devon reached an impressive 136-8 in 30 overs.
Other Whitchurch bowlers were Emma Pethick 2-0-0-9, Jessica Jackson 4-0-0-16, and Jo Austin 5-0-0-31.
Whitchurch's innings started and they lost Jessica early, but a partnership of 27 between Lesley Smith (20) and Gaynor Pollard (8) kept the score ticking.
Cathy Griffin (35 not out) and Jenny Kay (8) kept the game level. At the point of 64-4 with just 12 overs to go Jo Solman (23 no) joined Cathy and their partnership of 74 runs, which included some well struck fours, saw Whitchurch home amid cheers of delight from the rest of their team-mates.
