NEARLY £600 was raised for the RNLI in the Bere Peninsula last week. A coffee evening at Bere Ferrers Church Hall on Wednesday November 16 raised more than £500, including £193 for the sale of RNLI Christmas cards, calendars and gifts. Local sea shanty singers the Tavy Tars provided much-appreciated entertainment, and the RNLI?s first promotional film from 1924 aroused much mirth while still getting the message across of the importance of the service. Among items donated for the boat jumble was a Mirror dinghy in need of tender loving care. Thanks were expressed to everyone who supported the event and donors of draw prizes. Items left over from the bring and buy were taken to the table top sale in Bere Alston the following Saturday, raising a further £77 for the Tavistock and District Branch of the charity. The branch?s next event is the annual dinner at Tavistock Golf Club on January 28. Tickets, priced £16, are available from 01822 615027
