A TRIO of enthusiastic runners have raised a large sum of money as a result of taking part in the grueling New York Marathon.
Lita Meardon and Bryan Friend from Okehampton together with Andrew Vallance from Inwardleigh will be presenting a cheque for £2,300 to the Devon Air Ambulance at the Exeter air base on Monday (January 27).
Lita, 26, a hairdresser, from High Street, said they had all run marathons before.
?We all tend to run together just for fun. We have done the London Marathon and thought this was a bit more adventurous,? she said.
?It was a good way to see New York. We went there for two weeks and made a holiday of it.?
The marathon was in November. Bryan, 36, completed the route in 3hrs 13mins with Lita and Andrew, 23, both finishing in 4hrs 43mins.
?We asked friends and family to sponsor us,? said Lita.
?We chose the Devon Air Ambulance because it is a charity that we all support. Around here it is something that you never know when you might need.?
Lita said that Andrew and Bryan were taking part in the next London Marathon in April ? but she was unable to get a place because the event was over subscribed.
