IN just one and a half hours, a group of people from Halwill, Highampton and Hatherleigh raised £544 for the tsunami appeal as a succession of lots went under the hammer at a furious pace at a charity auction. With the professional help of Andrew Varley, the auction was held in the cattle market in Hatherleigh on Saturday, February 5. Organisers gave their thanks to Andrew and all who supported the event with their time, donated lots and all those who braved the weather to make bids. l The Winsford Centre at Halwill Junction is planning a wine and wisdom evening in Sheepwash Village Hall next month. The fundraising event will take place on Friday, April 8, at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. The funding allows the centre to help beginners wishing to learn from scratch as well a SAGE course starting on Monday, March 14. To book a place contact 01409 221470 or 01409 231537. Places are limited but people can always put their name on a waiting list.
