A HORRABRIDGE youngster, who loves to be pulled across Dartmoor by a horse in a special chariot, will soon be able to continue doing what he loves thanks to funds raised by the community to buy him a new, bigger chariot.
Ben Furze has medical problems which greatly restrict his ability to take part in outdoor recreational activities but he gets the greatest pleasure from horse riding across the moor, sitting in a specially equipped IBEX saddle 'chariot'.
When it became apparent that Ben was outgrowing his original chariot, his parents, Andrew and Caroline, arranged an auction of promises at the London Inn in Horrabridge, that raised almost £1,700 towards a replacement.
While the sum raised was a giant stride on the way to funding the new chariot, it still left a shortfall, so the Horrabridge Cavaliers stepped in with a £500 donation to boost the funds so that the family is now within touching distance of the final target.
Trevor Smith, vice chairman of the Horrabridge Cavaliers, said: 'Ben loves being outdoors and we are delighted to be able to help him carry on enjoying himself on the moors.'
The Horrabridge Cavaliers are dedicated to supporting good causes in the village and the surrounding area. The group supports individuals and organisations through donations and by offering manpower for work that would otherwise be too difficult or expensive to implement.
