Wadebridge U15 27
Tavistock U15s 26
LEADING 21 to nil at halftime Tavistock looked for all the world the better side. Right from the beginning of the second half Wadebridge played with purpose and aggression using their enormous pack to good effect to rifle in three tries within 10 minutes. The Camels squeezed in a try in the last two minutes to take the lead for the first time in the match.
Despite this turn of fortune the team can look back on this performance as the best this season. Particularly in the first half Tavistock retained 70% of the possession as forwards and backs alike retained control of the ball from set plays and recycled the ball from second phase rucks and mauls. Tries from Kieran Lyle, Euan McCall, and Jake Chinn together with conversions by Chris Bray and Andrew Smerdon all came from well worked moves. Jake Chinn?s sidestep and dummy was particularly pleasing to the eye and was typical of the first half?s exuberant performance.
Man of the match: Andrew Smerdon.
Launceston U14s 15
Tavistock U14s 12
TAVISTOCK started off slowly allowing Launceston to score first. Through the efforts of O?Neill, Leeson and Morgan, Tavistock produced a quick ruck ball from a bone-crunching tackle by M Smith.
Thompson sent a sweetly timed pass out to Warlow, who found James. He took the tackle and offloaded it to Lane who sprinted 22 metres and dived in the corner.
Tavy kept on the pressure but from a slack pass Launceston intercepted to take the lead just before half time.
In the second half Cuthbert on the wing showed his blistering pace, linking up with Milligan, fullback, they got close to the Launceston line. From the maul that ensued Roberts and Smith drove it on.
Thompson ripped out the ball, passed to James who dived in the corner to score and beautifully converted his try to give Tavy a 2 point lead. Unfortunately Launceston replied with a controversial try in over-extended extra time. Man of the match: Lloyd James.
Wadebridge U13s 26
Tavistock U13 33
A STRONG attacking run by Frazer Carter put Tavistock a try up within five minutes.
The teamwork led to a succession of Olly Frost tries characterised by his powerful running. Ben James found his aim and range converting all but one of the tries.
At times Tavistock made things difficult with too many errors and penalties conceded, allowing a Wadebridge try. Half time score 26-7.
After 15 minutes of the second half. Tavistock had not entered opposition territory, and only strong defence by Harrison Short, Tyrone Austin and Max Dobson at fullback kept Wadebridge from scoring. A further Olly Frost try was set up by one of several runs by Joe Elliot.
Despite a good lead, Tavistock allowed a determined Wadebridge to keep attacking, and three converted tries were deservedly scored.
Tavistock man of the match: Joe Elliot.
