WEST Devon Connect's outreach events will see a change to their regular venue line up this autumn.

From October, the Bere Alston events will be held on a rota basis in three different venues. Starting with Bere Alston Primary School, it moves to the Saturday community market at Bere Ferrers in November, and returns to Hope Cottage in December. It is hoped that changing venues will enable more people in the area to access the service. All other outreach venues remain the same.

The main theme for October's outreach is money matters and helping yourself, with the Citizens Advice Bureau joining each event.

The CAB is well-known for its debt and welfare benefit service. Advisors will be available to help people understand all the options open to them whatever their circumstances.

Mandy Kenyon, CAB development officer said: 'This month will give West Devon Citizens Advice Bureau the opportunity to promote a range of leaflets, including "Help yourself to get more money", and "Help yourself to sort out your debts".

'If people have more complicated problems we will also be able to refer those who qualify to more specialist services or provide contacts for more detailed self help advice.

'In addition, we will be promoting the need to improve people's financial capability. This is about being in a position to make sound financial choices such as paying for 12 months' car tax instead of six and making a saving.'

As part of a local carer's initiative, and along with a special carer's event being held between 3pm and 6pm at Tavistock Library on Monday October 18, specialist benefits advisors will be at the Connect outreach sessions on October 19, in Hatherleigh, and October 22, in Chagford.

Confidential areas will be available at the different venues:

October 5 and 19, Hatherleigh Market, 9.30am-noon; October 1, The Burrow Café, Exbourne,10am-noon; October 12, Bere Alston Primary School, 3pm–4pm; October 8 and 22, Whiddons Tea Rooms, Chagford, 9.30am-noon; October 5, Spreyton, Village Hall, 2pm–3.30pm.

The usual monthly Lifton event will be taking a break for the time being.
