KELLY College disability swimmers Lauren Steadman, Michael Jones and Ellen Keane were in great form at the National Short Course Disability Championships, held at Ponds Forge International Pool in Sheffield last weekend.

Between the three swimmers they won no less than 15 national medals and produced 17 new best performance times.

Beijing Paralympian Lauren Steadman (17) won a silver and two bronze medals in the very demanding S9 category. Her medals were won in the 400m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 200m IM respectively.

Irish international Ellen Keane (16), who also competed at the Beijing Paralympics, joined the Kelly swim squad in September this year to swim under Kelly's Director of Swimming, Robin Brew, in order to prepare for the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

This was Ellen's first race appearance representing Kelly and she produced five best performance times and won four silver medals in the 100m back, 100m fly, 100m breast and 200m IM. Michael Jones (16) also joined the Kelly squad in September and had a blistering weekend setting new best performance times in all the ten events he entered. Michael was swimming in the S8 category and won a gold medal in the 100m IM, a silver in the 50m back and 5 further bronzes in the 50m fly, 50m breast, 100m and 400m free and the 200m IM.

Michael's improvements represented a massive 65 second across his events entered.

Sadly, Kelly was missing a swimmer at the weekend; British champion Jan Langton from Yelverton was due to join the swimmers in Sheffield, but came down with flu 24 hrs before the event.
