Tamar League A Ordulph v Bridestowe A STEADY 37 from batsman Tony Finnegan supported by Jude Rotton laid the foundations for this Ordulph victory. Top of the table Ordulph required one good win from the remaining two fixtures to be crowned the champions of the Tamar League ?A? Division. Facing their bogey team Milton Abbott in their final game, there was significant pressure to get the job done against lowly Bridestowe. Bridestowe however had not read the script and with the aid of their South African import, Andrew Patterson, and unbridled enthusiasm from their youngsters, were out to give the Taverners a bloody nose. Choosing to bat Bridestowe collapsed to 28 for 4, due to accurate and persistent bowling from Skipper Neil Folley (10-1-14-1) and Dave Langton (9-1-24-3). There followed a magnificent response from the Bridestowe middle order, with Lee Jutson (19), Charlie Ewen (15) and Trevor Turney (11) supporting Patterson (63) to take the final score to 131-7 in the allotted 40 overs. At one point this was looking more like 160, however the introduction of the subtle arts of Tony Finnegan to the attack soon removed Patterson caught and bowled, and the pace of the innings slowed down significantly. Ordulph with a much weakened batting line up responded with a solid and match winning opening partnership of 68 from Jude Rotten (30) and Doc Finnegan (37); however, it wouldn?t be the Ordulph without a suicidal middle order collapse. Fortunately a magnificently mature innings from Tom Wellard (28no) ably supported by Eddie Wood saw Ordulph through to a five wicket win and a championship winning victory. The Ordulph star in the field was again Johnny Bellamy, who ran his heart out all afternoon. Ordulph can now relax during their final game having secured the 18 points required to take the top spot.
