IT was certainly worth the trip to the January show and sale at Hallworthy Stockyard last week for two West Devon farmers.

The overall champion and first prize cow realised £2,450 for their Holstein Beckwell Pippen Priscilla 6 GP83; the third calver giving 42 kilos, was sold on behalf of Messrs A and D Heyward, of Coryton.

Mark Bromell, dairy auctioneer for Kivells, said: 'The January show and sale saw a fantastic strengthening trade and more quality dairy cattle are needed to meet demand at Hallworthy Stockyard. A good quality entry met a packed ring of buyers, the cattle selling on a flying trade.'
