Marjons Fifths 5

Tavistock Thirds 6

TAVISTOCK THIRDS put on an impressive performance with what was a scratch team in this final pre-season friendly.

Short of numbers, Tavistock called upon two ladies first players to ensure a full squad and make this a competitive game.

It was the young legs of Marjons who dominated the early play with the Tavistock defence of Passmore, Park, Mason and Greg Curno and keeper Osbourne keeping them at bay.

Tavistock then found some good passing rhythm and Luke Curno set up Nick Andrews to score the opener.

The away team showed some good passing moves to extend this lead to 3-0 before the break, goals coming from Andrews and Venton, however this came with the loss of Bridget Passmore with a head injury.

Marjons came out of the blocks quickly in the second period and quickly had two goals back before Tavistock made it 4-2.

The game followed a similar pattern with Marjons striking twice more and drawing level before Tavistock again struck through Jo Gaspar.

With five minutes to go Marjons again equalised and possibly thought they could go on to win it, but Tavistock remained resolute and forced a long corner, from which Hugh Venton struck the killer blow with only two minutes remaining.

Special mention to Henry Chamberlain with an impressive debut in the midfield and Luke Curno who made some important stops and clearances having been forced into the unfamiliar role of left back through the injury.

This was another good performance from the Thirds before their season starts on October 8.
