THIS year's camp for Tavistock's Air Cadets was not at a flying station — but this did not stop the eight cadets and three staff members from having an enjoyable and challenging week.
RAF Innsworth near Gloucester played host to the cadets together with others from Helston.
All the cadets flew in Tutor aircraft at former airbase RAF Colerne, enjoying aerobatics and taking control.
Eight hours of dry training by Flt Lt John Olver, the squadron's commanding officer, enabled the cadets to fire the L98-A1 full bore rifle on the 25metre range.
Initiative tests, sport, swimming, a visit to RAF Cosford, a drill competition and a night exercise against local cadets kept everyone on their toes.
Other activities included visits to the historic Gloucester Docks, Cheltenham and ten pin bowling.
The air cadets, who meet at 6.45 on Tuesdays at Crelake Barracks, have now started their winter programme.
They will be taking part in the Wing Field Day, full bore shooting, a camping weekend and the air day at RNAS Yeovilton — and that's just September.
New cadets aged 13 and over are welcome to join the squadron — call 01822 612743 for details.
