CERTIFICATES of Achievement were presented last Saturday to 50 walkers who had taken part in the Dartmoor Challenge.
The challenge took place over both north and south Dartmoor on April 27 and 28 in aid of CLIC — Cancer and Leukemia in Childhood, Plymouth branch.
Walk organiser Steve Parker said the record number of walkers were split into two smaller groups with two experienced walkers leading each group. Two more acted as 'sweepers' to 'ensure no stragglers went astray'.
Certificates were presented by Graham Parker, chairman of the Plymouth branch of CLIC, and Tony Beard, the Widecombe Wag, at the Plume of Feathers in Princetown.
The total raised from sponsorship, the fun night — involving skittles and entertainment by the Widecombe Wag and an impromptu auction by Jen Sergeant of two first class return rail tickets to any destination in the British Isles, presented by Virgin Trains — was £6,418.95.
The organisers of the walk thanked the many sponsors, including Abbey National, Fundamental Leisure, Dartmoor News, Dartmoor prison, Dartmoor Garage, Princetown Breweries, the Railway Inn, the Prince of Wales and many others.
