South Devon Premier division Chagford 5 Newton Spurs Reserves 2 FOLLOWING last week?s disappointing goalless draw at Brixham Utd, Chagford got back to winning ways with a fine win against Newton Spurs reserves. Chagford started brightly and created chances from the off with the first goal coming after only 15 minutes when good running off the ball from Andrew Davis and Joe Whatley created space for Christian Crowther-Smith to beat the defence and plant a low drive pass the Spurs keeper. Encouraged by this early goal Chagford pushed on and were rewarded five minutes later when smart work down the right created the chance for Andrew Davis to get his 11th goal of the season. Other chances came and went ? Joe Whatley should have had a couple but Christian got his second after 35 mins from some great wing play by Stuart Potter and Stuart got in the act netting the fourth with a cracking right footed drive after 38 mins. With Chagford controlling the game they did get a little sloppy at the back and just before the break Spurs pulled one back to make the halftime score 4-1. The second half didn?t produce as many goals but there were many opportunities to score. Andrew Davis got his second after 50 mins and then despite good chances Chagford failed to score again. It was Spurs who had the last word, and goal, with a late consolation after 88 minutes. This was a good performance by Chagford and with some Premier teams in County Cup action they extend their lead at the top of the division to four points.
