A DOG rescue centre set up in December has just re-homed its 40th dog.
Dartmoor View Dog Rescue puts unwanted and abandoned dogs with foster families until loving homes can be found. The band of volunteers running DVDR are committed to saving and re-homing all breeds of dog, and have a strict non-destruct policy unless advised by a vet.
Since its official creation on December 1, 2012, the rescue has gone from strength to strength, forging relationships with Okeford Vets in Okehampton and Pets at Home in Launceston.
The veterinary practice provides support and has taken part in fundraisers for the rescue. On June 16, they will be hosting a family dog show in Simmons Park to support DVDR.
Pets at Home in Launceston have helped through their 'Adoption for Pets' scheme, and recently donated a pallet of dog food to the rescue.
Volunteers are working hard through 2013 to raise the organisation's profile.
Sponsored walks, a stand at the Ruby Country Market in Hatherleigh and coffee mornings in Hatherleigh and Tavistock have helped to spread the word about the rescue. DVDR will have stands at Mid Devon Hunt Lurcher, Terrier and Companion Dog Show at Whiddon Down on April 27, Okehampton Rotary May Day Fayre and dog show in Simmons Park on May 5, and a number of other shows in the coming months.
Sue Read from DVDR said: 'We have just re-homed our 40th dog and we are well on our way to re-homing our 50th, not bad for a rookie rescue. We have been very lucky to have fantastic support from all over the South West.
'Doing these events really helps raise the profile of our rescue which in turn helps us re-home the dogs that come through our door.
'All of our events are listed on our website, http://www.dartmoorviewdogrescue.co.uk">www.dartmoorviewdogrescue.co.uk and you will also find on here details of the dogs that are waiting for their forever homes.'
