A SPECIAL event is being held at the end of this month to mark the achievements of a former West Devon dancer born 100 years ago. Claire Cassidy taught the Margaret Morris Movement to hundreds of children and adults in Tavistock and the surrounding area for more than 50 years and the movement?s South West branch is holding a two-day centenary weekend specially for anyone who was taught by her. Jane Johnston, MMM south west regional secretary, said: ?There will be many who remember with warmth and admiration the inspirational teaching of Claire Cassidy. As a senior MMM dance teacher, her influence became international and many of her pupils have followed successful careers as dance performers or in dance education. ?She will also be affectionately in the thoughts of hundreds of former students who attended her adult evening classes or who were educated at schools where Claire developed the physical and creative skills of boys and girls through MMM.? On January 28, there will be a MMM dance technique class followed by a bring and share tea in the Abbey Hall in Plymouth, and on Sunday January 29, a reunion lunch and opportunity to see videos and memorabilia of Claire Cassidy?s long career. Anyone who would like to attend the centenary weekend should call Jane Johnston on 01822 614208 or Denise Avent on 01752 402818.
