ON Bank Holiday Monday Lewdown Cricket Club hosted its annual 7 a-side Cricket Carnival, an all club competition of six teams comprising three youth and four adult players per team. With this being Lewdown?s Centenary year, extra competitive spirit was shown by all, and the winners, captained by Brendan Worth were worthy champions. The event was held in fine weather and with a barbecue and refreshments on hand, much fun was had by all. Special mention should be made to Ade Clements for scoring 50 not out in 6 overs and to James Weeks, just eight years old and playing in his first competitive match for the club, for holding his bat in the first match of the day scoring 5 not out. Club centenary celebrations reach their climax with a match at Lords on the September 22, where three club members are walking from Lewdown for charity, planning on taking about 10 days and where the more sensible will be travelling up in a bus on either the 21st or on the morning of the match. If interested in going up to watch the match, which would include a tour of Lords or if you would like to sponsor the walkers, with money going to Cancer Research UK and to the Second Home Foundation please contact Jack on 07816978609.
