MEMBERS of Tavistock Muscular Dystrophy Group had more than one reason to celebrate recently — not only did the group enjoy their annual Christmas party, they have recently received several generous donations from supporters.
The group relies on donations to enable it to organise trips away for young people in the area with MD, giving them and their parents a well-earned break. But specialist accommodation and transport, together with the requirement for one-to-one care, means the branch needs to raise around £15,000 to fund each year's holiday.
Group members were delighted to receive cheques totalling £6,172 from some of their regular supporters. Pete Liddington had organised a sponsored walk in Bristol, while Doreen and Terry Stonecliffe have run stalls at fayres and car boot sales throughout the year, for which the branch have thanked for such wonderful support.
The Christmas party involved a shopping spree in Tavistock, followed by games, activities and a party tea at the Methodist Church Hall.
