SIXTY years after first meeting over coffee, Jack and Dora James were joined by family and friends to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary.

Jack, 91 and Dora, 84, (pictured left) were treated to a surprise party at Abbotsfield Nursing Home in Tavistock, where they both now live, to celebrate sixty years of marriage with family, friends and old neighbours.

Dora, originally from Lamerton, said she met Jack, from Bere Alston, when she took a trip into Tavistock for coffee. She said: 'I came into town with my sisters for coffee when I met Jack. He asked me if I wanted to go to the pictures and it went on since then. I think we were meant for each other.'

The couple got married at Lamerton Parish Church and went to Torquay for their honeymoon.

Jack and Dora have two daughters, four grandchildren and five great children, who threw the couple a surprise party for their anniversary.

Dora said: 'It was such a surprise, really lovely — I was quite emotional.'
