OWNERS of a popular Gulworthy holiday park have described winning a silver award in the South West tourism 'Oscars' as 'the pinnacle' of their achievements so far.

The excellence award from South West Tourism comes on the back of Woodovis Park being voted fifth best park in the UK by its guests earlier in the year, and various awards from Hoseasons in recent years.

John and Dorothy Lewis, who run the park, said: 'Without a doubt this is the pinnacle of our achievements to date and is a reflection of the quality of our park and most importantly, the outstanding contribution that our staff always make by going that extra mile for our guests.

'This award is not only good for our business but the local community as a whole, hopefully bringing more visitors into the Tavistock and surrounding area.'

Woodovis was one of 32 holiday establishments to win a silver award in 15 categories. Fifteen gold awards were also made, with the Eden Project awarded the 'Winner of Winners' for its inspirational role as a 'superlative visitor experience.'

The judges looked for entrants, of which there were more than 300, to demonstrate outstanding levels of customer service, plus exemplary facilities, along with commitment to sustainability, recycling and the environment and being accessible to all.

The awards were announced at South West Tourism's 'Oscars Night' at the Saunton Sands Hotel and presented by Gill Williams, travel editor of the Sunday Mirror.

Commenting on the award winners, chairman of South West Tourism Alistair Handyside said: 'Winning at the regional awards is a great achievement for any business especially more so in these economic times.

'These businesses have shown that customer care, staff training and continued investment have not faltered but have grown and they are committed to exceeding visitor expectations.'
