A NEWLY added locomotive to a collection at the Tamar Belle Rail Heritage Centre at Bere Ferrers had its inauguration on Saturday.
The rebuilt 1939 Ruston Hornsby diesel mechanical was fired up for the first time on Saturday after three years of refurbishment.
Chris Grove, from the heritage centre, said: 'It was originally built for the Woodside Brickworks at Croydon. We acquired it about three years ago and it was a non-running wreck.
'We put a new engine it in and completely rebuilt the structure using some original components.'
The open day at the heritage centre was part of a number of celebrations taking place to mark the 125th anniversary of the opening of the Bere Ferrers and Bere Alston railway stations and the opening of the Plymouth to Tavistock and Lydford railway.
On Tuesday, two plaques marking the anniversary were unveiled at Plymouth Station and at Bere Alston Railway Station.
