I AM writing in response to your front page article (June 2) concerning the condition and repairs to the town hall ceiling. As a concerned ratepayer of Tavistock and considering the large property portfolio of Tavistock Town Council, it produces an income of £379,000 (as stated in this year?s rating proposal) and its proposed expenditure for the maintenance of those properties for this financial year is £328,000. It leaves plenty of funds to cover the projected expenditure to the town hall. Therefore I and many of the town?s ratepayers would strongly suggest that the funding for these repairs should not under any circumstances by born by the ratepayers of Tavistock and strongly suggest that the town council amends its decision as to where the funding should come from. I look forward to seeing a response from Tavistock Town Council and other ratepayers in your next edition. Charles Douglas John Mathis Maudlins Park Tavistock
