A WEALTH of new toys will deck the tables of Winkleigh Pre-School Playgroup thanks to a grant of £200 from the Toy Trust.

Staff and parents are delighted with the grant which means the children can enjoy a range of new games.

At the recent Ofsted inspection the pre-school was found to have achieved very high standards for the education of three and four-year-olds, however, numeracy and literacy were highlighted as areas for future development. Unfortunately, the group was unable to find the materials needed to implement its Ofsted action plan until now.

Supervisor Catherine Knight explained that the pre-school was always struggling for funds and the Toy Trust was approached for assistance in purchasing table-top toys that promoted literacy and numeracy.

'We had quite a lot of old toys that needed replacing but we could never afford to fund these ourselves,' she said. 'We are dependent on the good will of people.'

The Toy Trust is a vitally important source of support for struggling pre-schools and Mrs Knight said the grant would help the children of Winkleigh to receive an enriched pre-school education.

Winkleigh Pre-School has been in existence for 30 years and there are currently 34 children on the roll.
