THE Rotary Club of Tavistock?s fundraising drive has had an amazing response with nearly £6,000 raised during the Bedford Square street collections and other donations have brought the total so far up to £8,100. This has meant that seven aquaboxes and eleven shelterboxes have been sent into the disaster area by the club. ?This has been an amazing response, our heartfelt thanks go to everybody who contributed,? said Edwin Clark, President of Tavistock Rotary Club. ?When we started collecting we thought £1,000 would be a good target figure to aim for but as the extent of casualty numbers and damage became apparent people have said they seem unable to help in any other way except to put money to causes that will attempt to relieve some of the suffering and help with survival where everything has been destroyed.? In addition to the private donations, a number of organisations have passed their own collections to the club for the purchase of further shelterboxes. Anyone wishing to contribute can send cheques payable to the Rotary Club of Tavistock to Peter Baron, club treasurer, at 16 Church Lea, Whitchurch, Tavistock PL19 9PS. Alternatively, they may be dropped in to Mayflower Galleries in West Street.
