GET Changed Theatre Company, a West Devon group for adults with learning disabilities from Okehampton and Tavistock, has just been awarded a much-needed donation from the Okehampton and District Lions Club. Lions president Terry Kempster and other members presented a cheque for £400 to the group last week. Mr Kempster said the club was pleased to be able to support such a talented group of people and wished them all the very best in their future projects. Get Changed relies solely on fundraising to keep going. Jane Foxwell, artistic director, said: 'This money is really important to us, we need continued financial support in order to exist. 'We still need more funding to ensure this service continues. 'Get Changed is valuable community service for learning disabled people. We currently have eight people waiting to join but this cannot happen until further funding is secured.' Pam, a company member, said: 'We need money to help Get Changed keep going. 'I love the group and I don't want to stay at home because it's boring.' Another member, Andy, said: 'We would like to thank the Lions for doing this for us, we are really grateful.' Marje Payne, a Trustee for the charity and a valued volunteer said: 'It is really nice for the whole company to meet with those who support us.' Get Changed has recently completed a highly successful three year countywide project aimed at a raising awareness of bullying and disability issues amongst young and learning disabled people. The company worked on the project in conjunction with Community Safety Partnerships in Devon in order to assist in the reduction of prejudice and hate crimes against those with learning disabilities. Get Changed Theatre Company hopes to embark on a new project soon.
