NEW equipment is to be added to Bridestowe Play Park after West Devon Borough Council agreed an application for £11,575.
The application was made by Bridestowe Parish Council to a fund set up for community facilities in the village as part of an agreement between the developer of the Town Farm land and the borough council.
Members of the council's strategy and resources committee were told there were swings and a climbing frame at the play park but the equipment was limited, dated and only catered for children in the 5 to 11 age range.
Equipment was therefore sought to provide more variety in terms of activity and age range.
For toddlers and young children 'springers' and a seesaw and for secondary school aged children, a nest swing, 'typhoon' and seating were proposed.
The parish council has invited input into choosing the pieces of equipment via the school, local pre-school and the parish magazine.
Enhancing the play park at the sporting green would benefit all residents of Bridestowe, including the Town Farm development, and would bring the play park to a suitable standard for a village of this size, councillors were told.
The parish council had prioritised the improvement of the play park for the developers' community contribution funds, which stand at £20,000, and has championed the project since its early conversations with the developer prior to the houses at Town Farm being built.
