THE plight of animals at Wingletang Animal Rescue Centre needing rehoming has been helped by a generous donation from Okehampton's Waitrose store. The centre has been given £500 through the store's Community Matters scheme, where shoppers chose to support one of three charities with a green token given to them following their purchase. The rescue centre in Brentor has the capacity to house 40 dogs, 24 cats and various birds and horses, and is run by Alan and Niki Ging. The centre is always on the lookout for loving homes for their animals. Among those looking for a home is Daisy, a miniature poodle born in April 2011. She was left with the rescue centre due to her owners moving into a no pet accommodation, and is a friendly and gentle dog. She joined Alan as he collected the cheque from Waitrose. Alan said: 'All money raised to support the centre is really important, so thank you to Waitrose for their kind support.' The rescue centre at Heathfield, Brentor, is open from noon to 3.30pm every day.
