TAVISTOCK children are benefitting from a £30 million government grant scheme aimed at creating ?living spaces?.
Bishopsmead Playpark was created four years ago to provide a safe and enjoyable outside play area for local children and is one of the ventures chosen to receive an award of £25,000.
The ?living spaces? scheme provides funds and support to help people make the most of open stretches in their neighbourhood ? allowing community groups to improve or create play areas, recreation grounds, village greens and city farms.
The grant for Bishopsmead Playpark was awarded in January and has enabled them to build a climbing frame, see-saw, springer and swings as well as providing safety surfacing for the whole park.
Project chairman Tina Hurford said: ?We were delighted to hear we had been successful with our application to ?living spaces?. The play area is already being well used which is a marvellous reward for the amount of work that has gone into it? she said.
?We now have a much needed community space that everyone can enjoy.?
