A FESTIVE evening of carol singing has been arranged for next week, in support of a Tavistock charity.

Carols for the Community will take place on Sunday, December 7 at 6pm at Tavistock Town Hall, to raise money for mayoral charity of the year Make A Difference.

Make A Difference was formed in 2005 and took up residence in Trident House, Taylor Square in 2010 as a drop-in centre supporting people with mental health issues. The charity provides a safe, non-judgmental, supportive environment for anyone who has had or continues to have mental health issues which affect one in four people at some point in their lives.

The charity also hopes to dispel some of the myths and stereotypes associated with mental health by getting out into the community and raising awareness.

The main aim of Make A Difference is to offer support and social interaction by providing a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, computer sessions, board games, chess club, pool, patio gardening and cookery. The house is open on Monday mornings from 10am to 12.30pm and the music group is held in the afternoon with various instruments and people joining in with singing and generally having fun.

On Tuesday afternoons there is a chess club and in the evening, AA meets from 6.30pm to 8pm.

On Wednesdays from noon to 4pm, the house is open for arts, computers and board games and the same again on Fridays, from 12.30pm to 4pm.

The charity offers help and advice for form filling and general support when needed. People are welcome to pop in for a hot drink and a chat.
