Okehampton 1
Tavistock 2
THIS local hockey derby proved to be an exciting game which was not decided until the last few minutes.
The first half started cautiously, then Okehampton began to take control and won a number of short corners. However, they were unable to convert the chances.
This gave Tavistock the chance to get back and using their 'networking' technique they put the Okehampton defence under pressure, Keith Dennis in the Okehampton goal did well to prevent Tavistock scoring.
The second half opened and Okehampton were quickly onto the attack. The opening goal came from a free hit which Chris Luxton picked up in front of goal and turned the keeper to give himself a simple tap in.
Okehampton created chances to add to their score but the Tavistock defence held out.
Okehampton conceded a short corner which Phil Edwards converted with a shot into the corner to level the scores.
With the points still at stake both sides went for broke and pushed for the winner. Okehampton left themselves a little open at the back and Carl Jefferies took the opportunity and scored the winner with a good shot from a narrow angle.
This week Okehampton play their last league game before the Christmas break against Marjons.

TAVISTOCK Seconds entertained league leaders Penzance and surprised them with their dominance, crosses from Jones on the right wing putting them under pressure.
Tavistock's early pressure was rewarded when, following a flowing three-man move involving Reddin, Cheffey and Newman Snr, the Penzance keeper conceded a penalty stroke which was dispatched coolly by Young.
The captain made what was to prove an inspired substitution by bringing on regular goal keeper Moyse in the unfamiliar position of left wing.
Moyse's first goal came from a super cross from Jones which Moyse stopped and rocketed past the keeper. After a short corner Moyse put in his second goal to leave Tavistock three goals up at half-time.
Tavistock continued to dominate with Moyse scoring his hat-trick from a Rowe run which Cheffey passed on to Moyse.
Tavistock rounded off the game with a goal of the highest quality when a four-man move from one end of the pitch to the other ended with Cheffey blasting in a shot from the edge of the D.
