THE kind supporters of Okehampton and District Community Transport Group have joined forces to create tactile hand muffs to help people suffering with dementia.

Twiddlemuffs are a knitted muff with various beads and items attached so people with dementia, who often have restless hands, can keep them occupied.

Sue Wonnacott, co-ordinator of the transport group, said: ‘The latest batch of 32 twiddlemuffs have been made by our wonderful supporters who tell us that they are enjoying making something colourful, fun and which will provide hours of enjoyment to clients.

‘I took eight to Kent House where a couple of the residents tried them out for size. I also took eight to Lyndridge Care who were grateful as they can use them for their planned memory cafe and another eight to Okehampton Hospital’s Dartmoor Ward. We are also taking eight to Hatherleigh Care Village.’
