RADIO personality Judi Spiers was back in Tavistock recently to officially open a new £1-million extension to a specialist care facility in the town.

Stonehaven Care Group owners and directors celebrated the launch of the new extension, the Drake Unit, to Chollacott House along with Judi Spiers, Mayor of Tavistock David Whitcomb, friends, associates and the Chollacott family.

Chollacott House is one of seven homes run by Stonehaven Care Group, which provide care for elderly people with dementia. Each home is subject to ongoing improvement to ensure they remain in line with modern approved aspects of design and comfort.

The newly opened ten bedroom specialist care facility in Tavistock will provide a safe and caring environment, and the new wing will further develop Chollacott's reputation for quality palliative care for elderly and frail people in West Devon.

The project has been nominated for the Dementia Design Innovation of the Year Award at the International Dementia Excellence Awards 2010.
