I READ with interest the report on Saltash Road, Callington, car park. This saga has been ongoing for over 20 years, in fact, probably every since the car park replaced the allotments.
The concept was good, providing a free car park for commuters, people who work in the town and the local school. However, I do not believe that it was envisaged at the planning stage that this wonderful facility (to quote) was to be used as a pit-stop and race-track for every budding Schumacher in the area.
On occasion there can be as many as 50 or 60 entrances and exits to the car park in an evening by mostly small cars with big-bore exhausts and squealing tyres, to say nothing of the boom-boom of the in-car stereo.
It is not, and never has been in my experience, just a simple matter of quietly meeting and chatting nor is it confined to evenings, but also the small hours of the morning.
Local residents will undoubtedly be grateful for the past efforts by the police and councillors in this matter but given that the problem has never gone away for long, is it not time for a more permanent solution?
