THERE?S the chance to get your car cleaned while enjoying lunch at the same time this Saturday in Tavistock ? and raise money for a good cause. With the help of local cubs, Tavistock Muscular Dystrophy Group will be washing cars and serving light lunches at Tavistock Methodist Church. Abbey Surgery has kindly allowed use of their car park for the washes, with Tavistock firefighters providing the water. While your car is being washed, you can enjoy a sandwich then browse the plant and bric-a-brac stalls. All money raised on the day will go to support muscular dystrophy sufferers in the Tavistock area and to help take a group of youngsters away on an annual holiday. The branch has organised this holiday for many years for young boys who have a particularly severe form of MD, in which they have only a short life expectancy ? many of them dying in their late teens or early 20s. This year the group hopes to take 15 youngsters, with volunteer helpers, to a specially equipped centre near Cardiff, providing them with a fantastic break away and their families and carers with a valuable week?s rest. The car wash and lunch takes place between 11am and 2pm this Saturday, June 18 ? all welcome.
