TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club?s week began with a Club Championship which saw some 11 competitions completed. The Men?s Championship was won by Mike Allen after a tough game against club captain, Norman Paramor. The Ladies Handicap trophy was won by Freda Isaac, with Anne Brown as runner-up. Anne was also runner-up in the ladies two wood contest, which was won by Marion Allen. The Ladies Pairs championship went to Anne Brown and Marlene Paramor after they beat Freda Isaac and Jill Lacayo in the final. The Mixed Pairs contest was won by Mike Silcox and Betty Browse after their success against runners-up Barry Chappell and Jill Lacayo. The mixed triples match ended in a win for the team of Wendy Bloomer, Ernie Piper and Malcolm Bloomer, who defeated Mike Silcox, Hazel Lovell and Vic Stacey in the final. The Brian Parker trophy will go to Vic Stacey, after his hard fought game against runner-up Mike Allen. The men?s Handicap trophy goes to Mike Silcox, with Mike Allen as the runner-up. Vic Stacey became the two wood champion after his defeat of Barry Chappell in the final and Vic will also pick up the Muzzlewhite Trophy following his defeat of Mike Silcox in that final. The Men? pairs trophy was won by Vic Stacey and Malcolm Bloomer, after a close contest with runners-up Barry Chappell and Mike Allen. Tavistock?s only mixed match during the week took place on Friday and saw them travel to face their name-sakes Plymouth Sir Francis Drake and come away having lost the match (112-130) after winning only one of the six rinks played. Skip Roy Northam and his crew of Stuart Doidge, George Blackburn and Marlene Paramor won 33-15 after restricting their opponents to scoring only three shots in the second half of their game. Skip Mike Allen and his team of Brian Ellicott, Jenny Aldridge and Laurie Smith went down 17-24, while skip Norman Paramor and his squad of Vic Stacey, Gordon Northey and Val Powell-Thomas lost 14-23. Skip John Smith and his team of Val Southern, Wallace Northey and Harvey Leach, went down 10-28 after scoring only once during the last nine ends played. Skip Ernie Piper and his team of David Perry, Shirley Blackburn and Joan Northey, lost 16-17. Skip Walter Meek and his team of Albert Townsend and two players ?on-loan? from the Plymouth club, lost (22-23) when their opponents picked up 13 shots over the last six ends played. The first of two Ladies Section matches saw them travel to face Victoria on Monday and come away having won both rinks played. Skip Henny Bawden and her crew of Joan Northey, Viv Powell-Thomas and Shirley Blackburn won 22-10, while skip Hazel Lovell and her squad of Sue Bailey (playing her first match for the club), Anne Brown and Marlene Paramor won 29-6. Tuesday saw the ladies facing Elizabethans in a two rink league match, plus one friendly rink. Tavistock Ladies won both league games but lost the friendly by one shot. Skip Yvonne Meneer and team of Henny Bawden, Shirley Blackburn and Betty Browse won their league game 19-14 and skip Marion Allen and crew of Marlene Paramor, Anne Brown and Hazel Lovell won the second league rink, 21-11. The friendly rink, of skip Val Southern, Diana Smirles, Viv Powell-Thomas and Joan Northey, lost 13-14.
