SIX?cyclists rode from London to Tavistock in this year's bike ride in memory of West Devon resident Theresa Vanstone.

The ride of more than 240 miles saw Steve Vanstone, Mike Lyddon, Stu Corbett, Tim Payne, Ben Moore and Paul Gordon (pictured) take part in the hardest challenge to date.

Steve said: 'Last year saw a few accidents so we hoped this year would be less bloody!

'I was the only casualty, coming off into a hedge of stinging nettles.'

Day one saw the men ride from London to Salisbury.

Steve said what should have been a 90-mile journey increased to 101 miles as Mike's sense of direction got worse as the day went on!?Thirteen hours later the cyclists finally got to their destination.

Day two from Salisbury to Honiton was hard, especially getting back on the saddle, with several hills later on in the day testing everyone.

Steve said: 'At this point Tim looked in all sorts of trouble. He looked like he might not make it, but after three Mars bars he managed to complete the final five miles.'

The final day saw the cyclists race back to Tavistock over Dartmoor, with hill after hill seeing record low speeds.

The team finally arrived back in Tavistock at 5pm on Saturday July 30.

Steve said: 'We chose to ride once more for the charity Myasthenia Gravis Association. Over the last three years we have raised more than £6,000 for the charity.

'Myasthenia Gravis is an auto-immune disease which is characterised by fluctuating, sometimes fatal, muscle weakness.

'Activities taken for granted by most of us become difficult or even impossible at times. Simple things like eating food, lifting arms, speaking to friends or laughing.

'So far from this bike ride we have raised over £1,500 — thank you to all those that have sponsored us.'
