East Devon Bill Slee Cup round 2
South Zeal Utd 2
Exmouth Amateurs 0 (aet)
ZEAL started slowly against Exmouth and the visitors looked more likely to score in the opening 15 minutes. But Zeal started to get a grip of the midfield and created good chances with Harley Cann, John Halliday and Shaun Hiscock all going close in the first half.
In the second half it was all Zeal but they could not provide the finish needed to win so the game went into extra time.
As in normal time it was all Zeal and the deadlock was eventually broken when Roger White beat the visitors? keeper with a header that was pushed out but had clearly crossed the line.
Exmouth pushed for the equaliser to take the contest into penalties. With a minute of extra time remaining a Zeal clearance was dribbled down the left wing by Exmouth?s keeper. Harley Cann robbed him of the ball and set up Redd Cann to finish from six yards and put Zeal into the next round.
l The previous week, with a depleted squad of players, Zeal drew 2-2 at home to Witheridge. Two up at half-time through two well taken goals by Alan Vile, Zeal conceded two goals in the second half due in part to sloppy defending.
This week away to Witheridge, kick-off 2.30pm.
