Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 4 east
Lamerton 2
Lifton 1
LAMERTON returned to league action in a local derby. The home side began brightly and in the first ten minutes the pace of Lee Wickett twice took him clear of the visitors? defence only to be thwarted by goalkeeper Dave Ball.
Midway through the half came the first goal when a far post corner was played back by Paul Breyley and rifled into the roof of the net by Richard Downing.
The score stood at half-time with Lamerton deserving their lead having a grip on midfield.
The second half began with Lifton pushing forward and as the efforts of both teams increased the conditions worsened dramatically.
Halfway through the second half Lifton brought on substitute Andrew Prout whose pace began to trouble the home defence and from a good run down the left he lobbed keeper Pete Daniel to score a deserved equalliser.
Lamerton got the crucial break when Andy Coe was brought down in the box and Sean Cann converted the spot kick.
When the final whistle went it was to the relief of the home side with credit going to all the players on the pitch for giving everything in atrocious conditions and to referee Jim Wakem who kept the game flowing.
This Saturday away to St Dominick in the league, kick-off 2.30pm.
