South Zeal Utd 1

Axmouth 1

AXMOUTH came as top of the table visitors and it became a hard game with defences content to spoil any attacking moves.

Tempers and disagreement with the referees judgment were the most memorable feature of the half ending with two players from Axmouth and one from Zeal being booked.

Zeal's tactics were to play diagonal balls to three strikers in the second half in the belief that it must cross the path of one of them and keep tight on the Axmouth attack.

The game became a better spectacle and Zeal put early pressure on the visitors and contained them in their half for long periods.

Axmouth's clearances were hurried and Steve Pillivant latched on to one and shot a beauty of a low ball into the net. Axmouth replied with a header which grazed the bar. Adam Cann made a point-blank save.

With four minutes to go a high ball forward into the Zeal defence was not cleared and the right winger nipped round the full back who tripped him. The penalty was converted and it was all square.

This week away to Tipton St John who play at Ottery, kick off 2.30 pm.
