Devon and Exeter three

Bampton 1

SOUTH Zeal continued their excellent away record with a solid performance at Bampton on Saturday. South Zeal have accumulated 18 points from a possible 24 away from home but only 12 points from 33 at home has put them mid-table instead of challenging for the division 3 title.

On Saturday Zeal took the lead early when Harley Cann and Darren Prouse combined to put Redd Cann in on goal and he duly put them one up with a cool finish from 10 yards.

Within 10 minutes South Zeal went two up when a Tom Reilly free kick found Phil Evans who finished well with an accurate header at the far post.

In complete control and having seen several good chances missed to make the game safe, on the half hour South Zeal failed to clear from a corner and gifted a scrappy goal to the home side to put them back in the game.

Bampton now pushed for an equaliser but could not break down the South Zeal defence again as the vistors held on for all three points in a scrappy second half which saw both goal keepers almost inactive.

This week South Zeal are away to Phoenix in the Bill Slee cup semi final, kick-off 2.30pm.
