THE congregation at Tavistock Methodist Church joined people from 135 countries in a global, candlelit peace vigil on Sunday.
Candles for peace were lit during the evening worship which was one of 6,000 worldwide events, timed for 7pm local time.
The vigil was organised by US peace campaigners Win Without War, and commended by Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
The Rev Jeff Moles led reflection and prayer for refugees and victims of war.
l Members of Tavistock Peace Action Group travelled to London last week to attend a peace assembly featuring speakers including Tony Benn, Bianca Jagger, seven MPs and representatives from a range of trade unions, political parties and community groups.
The People?s Assembly for Peace was held at Central Hall, Westminster last Wednesday and was called by the Stop the War Coalition following the anti-war demonstration on February 15.
l Tavistock Peace Action Group will hold their Vigil for Peace every evening on Bedford Square between 5pm and 7pm.
There will also be a Vigil for Peace on Bedford Square on Saturday at 9am.
