A SUITABLE candidate is being sought by the Rotary Club of Tavistock to attend this year's youth leadership award.

The Rotary Club's Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) programme is a blend of physical and mental activities enabling young people to debate issues of professional responsibility and improve leadership and communication skills. The course comprises outdoor activities and tasks aimed at team building skills, along with a series of projects and lectures from high achieving members of the South West community.

At the finish candidates will come home inspired with confidence and organisational ability.

Club president Geri Parlby said: 'We are looking for a person who has the potential to become a leader in the community, particularly one who for reasons of education or background has not had the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills.

'The course has been described as probably the best of its kind in Rotary International and one of the most worthwhile things our district does annually. It looks impressive on a CV and at job interviews.'

A place on the course, which would commercially cost several thousands of pounds, is fully funded and takes place at Brimpts Farm from July 2-9.

Anyone who feels they might benefit should contact rotarian Russell Woolcock on 01822 612959.
