HATHERLEIGH Silver Band are looking for a very important member to join their number ? and are hoping someone will come along soon to pick up the baton. The town band need a new musical director to conduct at concerts, fetes and carnivals that they perform in throughout the year, as well as lead them in rehearsals. The key role is vacant as former musical director, Adrian Edwards, stepped down after six years holding the baton, although it is hoped he will continue as a member. The band has more than 30 playing members, including a strong core of younger musicians. Mark Quick, who is the temporary bandmaster, said: ?We are an ambitious, progressive and a friendly contesting band. Currently, the band are at the top end of the fourth section nationally and are looking to move to the third section very shortly. ?We are looking for someone with previous band experience. We want them to start as soon as possible as we start rehearsals soon for our Christmas performances, and in the New Year we will be preparing for our national qualifications contests, which will be held in March.? Band rehearsals are on Monday and Thursday from 7.30pm to 9.15pm.
