WEST Devon animal re-homing centre Margaret Green Animal Rescue is this week appealing to the public to give a rescue dog a loving home as numbers increase at the centre.
Niki Ging, manager of the rescue centre at Wingletang, said: 'The few months after Christmas are always a difficult time for us, both with unwanted dogs and strays.
'We aren't sure why we see such an increase in the number of dogs that come in. The only thing we can think is that maybe people get puppies for Christmas and decide they do not want their older dog anymore, or maybe they are bought a dog and decide they don't really want it and so turn it out onto the street.
'Whatever the reason, we have over 30 dogs in our care at the moment, all of which are looking for loving homes.'
One dog looking for a home is Buzz, a beautiful, sociable Inuit-cross.
'Buzz is a fantastic dog,' said Niki.
'He enjoys the company of other dogs, is very sociable and would love an experienced, active owner who enjoys training and exercise as much as he does!
'He has been with us a while now and we would love to see him find the loving home he deserves — he has so much to offer.'
