VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help support physically disabled people who wish to live at home.
The West Devon Enabling Scheme is run by the Leonard Cheshire Foundation in the Tavistock and Okehampton areas.
It helps physically disabled people to live at home, among their family and friends, and to remain independent and able to make choices for themselves.
The scheme is staffed exclusively by volunteers ? apart from a part-time paid co-ordinator ? and organisers are looking for more volunteers.
Training, travelling expenses, support and friendship is provided to all volunteers and there are a variety of ways in which help can be provided.
Befriending, driving, visiting, shopping, taking part in social outings, following hobbies and interests if the client would like to do that, managing monies, advocacy, clerical and administration work are among the many ways in which volunteers can help.
If you are over 18 and would like to know more, contact 01822 854465 for more details.
Leonard Cheshire representatives thanked everyone who gave so generously to support the work of the foundation, and in particular those ? especially Somerfields in Tavistock ? who supported Chris Moon on his recent walk from John O?Groats to Land?s End to raise money for the charity.
