A REDRUTH man is appealing for information about his father, who was born in Tavistock more than 100 years ago.
David Rowe said his father, Harold Ernest Rowe, was born in 1899 and lived at 47 Westbridge Cottages. He attended the Tavistock Wesleyan Sunday School between 1905 and 1910.
Harold had three sisters, Lillian, Edith and Winifred ? his father and mother were James Benjamin Rowe and Charlotte Rowe, nee Facey.
Mr Rowe said: ?He did have an older brother, Wilfred, who drowned in the river in Tavistock. He was going after birds? nests and the tree branch broke.
?He joined the Great Western Railway in 1917/18, beginning his career as a porter at Yelverton and serving at several South Devon stations, before moving to Cornwall in the early 1930s.
?During his time in Devon, he played football for Horrabridge and billiards for a local team in the area.?
Mr Rowe said he did not know exactly when Harold moved to Cornwall, but he got married in Penzance in 1937, after courting for four years.
He said information on his father is ?very sketchy?, but he would be very interested to hear from any Times readers who might have information on Harold Rowe, the billiard team he played for and any photographs or information about Horrabridge Football Club during the 1920s.
Anyone who can help Mr Rowe is asked to call 01209 218416.
