CARAVAN parks in West Devon are working with the borough council to encourage those exposed to domestic violence on holiday to seek assistance.

The summer campaign was this month launched in response to increasing numbers of domestic violence incidents across Devon. The South Devon and Dartmoor Community Safety Partnership has stepped in to provide support to those affected, with the backing of West Devon Borough Council, local caravan parks, domestic violence and abuse services and the police.

The partnership has contacted every caravan park in the borough and requested that they display Summer 2012 campaign posters and local domestic violence and abuse services information in their reception areas and toilets. The information provided will enable anyone suffering domestic violence to contact local services while on holiday or when they return home.

 Sgt David Anning of Tavistock Police said: 'Domestic abuse is a crime, and we're hearing about it more and more.

'Abuse affects both men and women and is not always physical. There are countless cases of emotional and financial abuse which are as serious as physical violence.'

Louisa Wall, West Devon community safety officer said: 'Unfortunately, for those in abusive relationships a holiday does not always mean a break in the patterns that can cause misery in their lives.

'West Devon Borough Council would like to acknowledge and thank caravan parks that are supporting the campaign to raise awareness of the help available for those suffering the effects of domestic abuse.'
