WHEN is somebody going to knock some sense into those misguided souls who still support the Whitchurch Rural Gateway?
It has been an environmental disaster from the very beginning, totally impractical and far from solving any problems has created more. Not so much traffic calming, more traffic enraging!
I have never understood the logic behind its construction anyway. How on earth could the narrowing and twisting of a perfectly good rural road improve the management and flow of traffic in an urban area half a mile away?
Now it seems Gretta Madigan wants to repeat this madness in Anderton Lane! Please, please, don't ruin another perfectly good road and create yet another white elephant.
The traffic problems of Whitchurch Road need solving on site, not down the road or round the corner. Small chicanes to slow traffic down would be one answer. Could I suggest that councillors visit the village of Norton St Philip in Somerset and take notes!
Finally, there is the chaos caused when the main road to Tavistock is blocked by an accident, as happens quite often, and traffic is diverted through Whitchurch. The 'gateway' becomes an absolute nightmare and cannot possibly cope.
