CALSTOCK footballer Kevin McCallion, 15, has won a junior scholarship to play with Torquay United's U18s squad.
Kevin (pictured receiving his scholarship contract from a Torquay United representative), who has been at the club's centre of excellence since January, will take up his full scholarship in June next year. His mum Edna said this two-year football apprenticeship was only offered to a handful of youngsters each year and the next stop was professional football.
'Torquay United will be paying Kevin weekly and also looking after his education — he will be doing a college course at Paignton. I am delighted for him. He has worked hard and is determined. It will take a lot of commitment both from him and myself as there will be a lot of travelling but he really wants this.'
Kevin is a pupil at Callington Community College and has been playing for local sides including Tamerton Foliot. He entered the development system at Torquay United four years ago where he was signed for the U12s and has been praised for his attitude and effort.
